After four games, UST tied for third

WHEN the UST Growling Tigers took the court against defending UAAP mens’ basketball champions, De La Salle University, many expected another victory for the Green Archers.

But what nobody had expected last July 27 by both UST and DLSU fans at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum was the tough stand put up by the original “four-peat” champions.

In one of the Archers’ toughest games so far this season, De La Salle staved off a fierce rally by the Tigers to win, 81-76, and remain unbeaten in the UAAP mens’ basketball tournament.

Tiger Cubs’ title retention bid in dire straits

WITH only a win after four games into the elimination round, the Tiger Cubs are sorely missing the services of last year’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Jun Cortez.

The Tiger Cubs are hitting rock bottom as the 20-year old Cortez is already too old to play for the juniors division.

The age limit for the division is 19.

Only a game after grabbing their first win of the season, the Tiger Cubs crashed back to earth again as they were ambushed by the De La Salle-Zobel Bengals in an 82-66 rout at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum last July 27.

UST Tracksters looking sharp

ALTHOUGH the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) track and field season is still months away, the UST Tracksters are already preparing for the big event by participating in tune-up matches and doing heavy recruitment in anticipation of another competitive season in December.

Both the men’s and women’s teams are currently playing in the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (PATAFA)-Colgate Weekly Relays held every Saturday at the Rizal Memorial track oval.

Tiger Spikers off to a ferocious start

SEEMINGLY ticked off by their bridesmaid finish in the UAAP Volleyball Tournament last season, the UST Tiger Spikers are off to a ferocious start in this season.

Their sights fixed on the volleyball crown, the Tiger Spikers cruised to a smashing three-set sweep of their long-time arch-rival, the Far Eastern University Tamaraw Spikers, 25-18, 25-17, 25-19, last July 28 at the UP College of Human Kinetics Gym.
