FROM cellar-dwellers to legitimate contenders, the UST Tracksters bucked their sixth place standing last season, finishing second with 197 points from a 9-3-4 gold-silver-bronze medal tally in the UAAP Season 68 athletics tournament from Feb. 9 to 12 at the Rizal Memorial Complex.

Defending champion Far Eastern University triumphed anew with 256 points, including seven golds, six silvers, and six bronze medals.

Despite earning more golds, UST fell short in the points tally that determined the event’s overall champion.

The UST Lady Booters earned the right to battle in the UAAP Season 68 Football finals by outplaying defending champion and finalist De La Salle University, 1-0, last Feb. 15 at the Ateneo de Manila University (Ateneo) Field.

Coach Jade Bejemino’s wards closed the second round with a 3-3-2 win-loss-draw tally. Their victims, meanwhile, ended up with a superior 4-2-2 record for a twice-to-beat advantage in the finals.

THE UST Tennisters succumbed to perennial threat De La Salle University in the finals of the UAAP Season 68 tennis tournament men’s and women’s division.

The Lady Tennisters fell short in their see-saw battle against La Salle, 2-3, last Feb. 19 at the Rizal Racquet Club in Pasig City, absorbing their fourth consecutive finals defeat in the league.

THE UST Golden Sox are back in the finals, waking up just in time to defeat Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP baseball tournament semifinals last Feb. 19 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium ballpark.

With the score tied at five after six innings, UST IX lit up the scoreboard with four runs at the top of the last inning. Pitcher Jun Robles had a two RBI triple, while catcher Jake Cumlat and first baseman Jerby Diego accounted for an RBI each.

UST’s defense blanked Ateneo at the bottom of the last inning.
