Growling Tigers off to fair start

WITH no reliable center and lacking in veteran leadership, the Tigers’ campaign this season seems to be a dance with disaster.

As the Tigers’ make-shift centers are still finding their way in the paint, the team’s struggle to establish chemistry has added up to the trouble. In their first four games, the Tigers has averaged 20 turnovers a game.

Tiger coach Reonel “Nel” Parado was even too open, and even too honest, about his expectations for the Tigers this season.

“Expect the worst,” he said.

UST Spikers make contrasting debuts

A YOUNG Tiger Spikers squad pulled off an opening day victory, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23, over the National University Bulldogs last July 25 at the University of the Philippines Human Kinetics Gymnasium in Diliman.

UST Tiger Spikers coach Emiliano Lontoc’s great offensive rotation of Nimrod Ruelos, Renyjohn Balse, Robertly Boto and Carlo Lubi caught the Bulldogs’ defense napping in the first set.

Hard-hitting Bulldog spikers Carandang and Labide dished out strong smashes in the second juncture to keep up with the Tigers.

UST eyes Sri Lanka campus

AS IT expands southward to Mindanao, the University is set to move to South Asia as the Archdiocese of Colombo in Sri Lanka has asked the Philippine Province of the Dominican Order to put up a Catholic University there.

Fr. Rector Tamerlane Lana, O.P., is set to announce the Sri Lanka expansion when he delivers his annual report to the University in August.
