UST is UAAP champion for the 34th time

For THE ninth straight year, UST has shown once again IT IS lord of the UAAP jungle by grabbing its 34th overall general championship and wrapping up its Season 69 campaign on a high note.

UST won 13 UAAP titles in 26 disciplines for a whopping 331 points, relegating perennial rival University of the Philippines-Diliman (UP) and Far Eastern University (FEU) to second and third places with 254 and 218 markers, respectively.

UST’s elite cast of Season 69 athletes

UST’S COLLEGIATE sports supremacy has been reaffirmed as the mighty Tigers registered sensational performances all year long to devour the opposition of all sorts and empower the University to its ninth straight UAAP overall crown.

Fabled UAAP Mythical Five member Jervy Cruz, UAAP Finals MVP Jojo Duncil, UAAP Sixth Man Dylan Ababou, and UAAP Coach of the Year Pido Jarencio highlighted UST athletes’ conquest of UAAP titles after leading the Tigers to a Cinderella finish to bring the men’s basketball diadem back to España after 10 years.

Dableo appeals suspension, demands for due process

SUSPENDED for a year for alleged game-fixing during last year’s Tanauan Open and 2nd Prospero Pichay Cup, UST Lady Woodpushers head coach and International Master (IM) Ronald Dableo has appealed for a reinvestigation of his case from the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).

Male Tennisters falter before Japan

REIGNING UAAP champions UST Tennisters’ tentative on-ball defense faltered against the powerful hits of the Kobe Gakuin University of Japan in an exhibition game held last March 3 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Tennis Court.

“Our opponents are very precise with their strokes and we are hoping to achieve that skill, now that we already played with them,” UST ace Wilbur Orillano said.

Orillano lost in singles action to Taira Masaya, who practically led the entire game, 4-6, 2-6.

Golden Sox run home with UAAP crown

KNOWN for their resiliency under pressure, the UST Golden Sox chose to stick with their fighting image at crunchtime.

And the trick paid off as the Golden Sox overcame a rough start and the spirited challenge of darkhorse Adamson University to claim its second UAAP baseball title in three years via an emphatic 2-0 finals sweep last March 4 at the Rizal Memorial Ballpark.

Lady Booters finish second

THE CROWN came so near yet so far for the UST Lady Booters as they fell short of dethroning arch nemesis De La Salle University (La Salle) Booters in a heartbreaking 1-2 loss last Feb. 22 at the Ateneo College Football Field.

Playing in their first finals stint since 2000, Coach Jade Bejemino’s squad looked deadset to win, after drawing first blood with Mary Ignacio’s goal in the third minute.
