UST Fencers register respectable showing

DESPITE being pitted against more experienced counterparts, the UST fencers gave a respectable performance last September 25-26 in the Escrima Liga 2004 Fencing championships at the Philsports Arena Fencing Hall.

The Lady Fencers led the UST contingent as Sabre event team members Jenny Rose Lui, Joahna Perez, and Karen Soriso bagged the gold medal against UAAP queen bees University of the Philippines Lady Fencers in their tightly-fought, 45-42, finals match.

Aqua Fortis sets team record

A NEW team record was flashed by the Aqua Fortis Dragon Boat Rowing Team (AFDBRT) during its recent stint at the 17th Thailand International Swan Boat Races last Sept. 11 and 12 in Ayutthaya, Thailand.

The team’s 3:30 time in the 650-meter race broke the squad’s previous record of 4:07, which they registered in Manila two weeks before the event. In another classic international dragon boat racing competition, the “underdogs” managed to sneak out as the eighth team to finish among 30 others in the restless Chao Phrya River.

Male Paddlers retain crown

THE UST Male Paddlers showcased their own version of a back-to-back championship as they succesfully re-established their dominance on the table, sweeping this year’s UAAP Table Tennis wars last Sept. 18, 19, 25, and 26 at the UST Gym.

Winning all their 14 assignments, the España-based paddlers showed nothing but relentess assault in their victory over the wards of the University of the East (UE) in the finals, 3-2, to retain the title. The wards of head coach Henberd Ortalla finished the tournament dropping only five sets against 42 qon sets.
