The UST Male Tennisters pummeled the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 4-1, in the UAAP Season 88 men’s tennis tournament on Wednesday, March 4, at the Colegio San Agustin-Bulacan Tennis Court.
The Male Tennisters tightened their hold on the third seed with a 6-2 win-loss record, while the Blue Eagles remained winless at 0-6.
Ateneo’s JD Velez survived a three-set duel against UST’s Evan Bacalso, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, to give Ateneo its lone win. UST’s Ericjay Tangub then swept JC Pabillore, 6-0, 6-0.
In the final singles match, UST team captain Sebastian Santos made quick work of Lukas Yupangco, 6-0, 6-2.
Male Tennisters Steven Sonsona and Al Zayeed Baid toppled Ateneo’s pair of Gabb Quintana and Gabby Calilung, 6-1, 6-0, in the first doubles match.
UST’s Nash Agustines and Brent Cortez wrapped up the dominant showing with a 6-2, 6-2 win over JB Cuarto and Vito Singson.
UST will next face the National University (NU) Bulldogs on Saturday, March 7, at the same venue.
