The UST Male Tennisters defeated the National University (NU) Bulldogs, 3-2, to secure a Final Four berth in the UAAP Season 88 men’s tennis tournament Saturday, March 7, at the Colegio San Agustin-Bulacan Tennis Court.
The Male Tennisters improved to the No. 2 seed with a 7-2 win-loss record, while the Bulldogs slipped to third place with a 6-2 slate.
UST’s Ericjay Tangub outdueled Andre Padao in the opening singles match, but NU responded by taking the next two singles matches, with Isaac Lim beating Evan Bacalso, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Alexis Acabo defeating UST team captain Sebastian Santos, 6-1, 6-3.
Male Tennisters Steven Sonsona and Al Zayeed Baid then routed Jules Lazaro and Miguel Vicencio, 6-3, 6-2.
Richard Bautista and Nash Agustines sealed the victory for UST by defeating Angil Balaoing and Christian Padilla, 6-4, 6-2.
UST will next face the Ateneo Blue Eagles on March 7 at the same venue.
