The UST Female Tennisters conceded the top seed to the NU Lady Bulldogs, 3-2, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s tennis tournament at the Colegio San Agustin-Bulacan Tennis Court on Wednesday, March 14.
The loss set up UST for a do-or-die clash against the third-seeded UP Fighting Maroons.
UST slid to a 5-2 record, while NU improved to 6-2.
NU’s Jessica Carcueva made quick work of UST rookie Kaye Mustaza, 6-0, 6-2, then Kaye Emana outdueled Lady Bulldogs Adelina Abadia in three sets, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.
In the last singles match, NU’s Elsi Abarquez delivered a 6-1, 6-2 rout of Mica Emana.
UST’s duo of Judy Padilla and Nicolas Dela Rita forced a decider after pummeling NU’s Juliana Carvajal and AJ Acabo, 6-3, 6-2.
In the deciding match, Female Tennisters Minette Bentillo and Justine Maneja faltered as NU’s Rovie Baulete and Kolin Cornell sealed the win, 7-6, 6-4.
The UST-UP clash will be on Sunday, March 15, at the same venue.
