
THE UST Junior Golden Spikers made quick work of the hapless UPIS Junior Fighting Maroons, 25-12, 25-9, 25-9, extending their winning streak to four games in Round 2 of the UAAP Season 87 boys’ volleyball tournament at the Paco Arena on Saturday, Nov. 16.
With the win, UST kept UPIS winless through 13 games this season while maintaining its hold of the top spot, sharing an identical 11-1 win-loss record with the NUNS Bullpups.
John Bautista paced the Junior Golden Spikers with 11 markers, followed by Jon Medino with 10.
The Junior Golden Spikers converted more than half of their attack attempts, going 33 for 65, while UPIS only converted 10 in 70 attempts.
The Junior Golden Spikers sat out resident setter Jefferson Abalos in the first two sets, allowing Chester Esteban to take over.
Marcos Bamba paced the Junior Fighting Maroons with eight markers, followed by James Gamon with five. Only four Junior Fighting Maroons scored throughout the game, while UST had 10 players logging points.
The Junior Golden Spikers will battle the NUNS Bullpups for the first seed at the same venue on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
