The UST Golden Tigresses suffered their lowest finish in Shakey’s Super League (SSL) history, failing to secure a podium spot for the first time after losing to the FEU Lady Tamaraws in the bronze-medal match, 20-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, Nov. 24.

With back-to-back losses to end the tournament, this marked UST’s first time to finish outside the podium of the SSL Pre-Season Championship since its first edition in 2022. The Golden Tigresses won silver in the 2023 edition

In the fifth set, the Lady Tamaraws established a four-point lead, 11-7, after a quick hit by Clarisse Loresco and a Tin Ubaldo block on Angge Poyos’ crosscourt attack.

An off-the-block hit by Poyos narrowed UST’s deficit to two points, but Jazlyn Ellarina finished off the Golden Tigresses with a quick attack, 15-12.

Poyos paced UST in the losing effort with 21 points built on 20 attacks and an ace, while Perdido ended the game with 11 points. Midway through the fourth set, Perdido suffered an apparent left knee injury after a bad landing at the net and had to be carried off the court.

Regina Jurado contributed 10 points, while Kyla Cordora chipped in seven markers.

An attack error from Alyzza Devosora, coupled with a quick hit from Bianca Plaza and a Poyos ace, allowed UST to walk away with the opening set, 25-20.

The Lady Tamaraws had four blocks in their 25-19 second-set victory to tie the match at one set apiece.

Down 23-22 in the third set, the Golden Tigresses uncorked three straight points, two of which came from Poyos, to go up 2-1.

The Lady Tamaraws broke a 9-all tie with a 10-5 run in the fourth set, gaining a dominant 19-14 advantage and ultimately forcing the game into a decider.

Ellarina powered FEU with 13 points built on 10 attacks and three blocks, while Gerzel Petallo and Bakanke chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Poyos was named Second Best Outside Hitter.
