THE UST Male Tennisters opened the UAAP Season 88 men’s tennis tournament with a commanding 5-0 win over the DLSU Green Tennisters on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Colegio San Agustin-Bulacan tennis court.
UST captain Sebastian Santos set the tone early, cruising past Yassan Al-Anazi, 6-0, 6-1, in the first singles match to give UST a 1-0 lead.
Ericjay Tangub followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win over EJ Geluz in the second singles.
Christopher Sonsona then sealed the team victory in the third singles, dispatching DLSU’s JT Bernardo, 6-2, 6-2.
UST continued its surge in doubles action as rookies Evan Bacalso and Al-Zayeed Abubakar Baid overpowered Daniel Estanislao and Kevin Garrido in the first doubles match, 6-1, 6-1.
Veterans Richard Bautista and Nash Agustines completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Marcus Guinoo and Fernando Po in the second doubles match.
The Male Tennisters look to secure their second win when they face the UE Red Warriors on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the same venue.
