UST libero Detdet Pepito confirmed she will enter the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) draft following the Golden Tigresses’ bronze-medal finish in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament.
The Tigresses exited after a four-set loss to the National University Lady Bulldogs on Saturday, May 2, at the Araneta Coliseum.
“Actually, hindi ko nga alam kung kanino nanggaling na ‘di ako magpo-pro, kasi nababasa ko yun… Pero, siyempre, doon na po tayo sa mas passion ko,” Pepito said postgame.
“Syempre, ‘yong paglalaro ng volleyball (ang uunahin ko), pero, if ever man, magiging second option ko pa rin yung sa education,” she added.
Pepito earned her degree in elementary education from UST in June 2025 and is currently taking up a master’s degree at the university’s Graduate School.
Her decision to turn pro comes a year after she admitted she was still undecided about her next step as graduation approached.
The 5-foot-2 libero has been with UST since 2015, completing both her high school and undergraduate studies there.
Pepito won four straight Best Libero awards in the juniors division from Seasons 79 to 82 before reclaiming the same honor in the seniors ranks in Seasons 85 and 86.
She played a key role in UST’s finals run in Season 86 and served as team captain over the last three seasons.
With her departure, UST is expected to turn to rising talent Pau Escober to take over the libero role next season.
