Josh Ybanez is set to exhaust his final playing year after committing to suit up for the UST Golden Spikers in Season 89, he announced on Saturday, May 9.

Ybanez made the announcement after receiving his third UAAP MVP award during the Season 88 individual awarding ceremony at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“UST has always been my home. As long as I have a chance na maglaro and ipaglaban ang UST, gagawin at gagawin ko ‘yon,” Ybanez said. “So, see you again next year.”

Ybanez first captured the award in Seasons 85 and 86 before suffering an injury in Season 87.

Since his rookie season in Season 85, Ybanez has steered the Golden Spikers to podium finishes, earning silver medals in his first two seasons before settling for bronze in Seasons 87 and 88.

Ybanez endured a tough finish in the Season 88 Final Four, scoring only nine points against the NU Bulldogs as UST settled for the bronze medal.

Fellow Golden Spikers Dux Yambao and Gboy De Vega have yet to decide on their future with the team.
