The UST Golden Tigresses took down the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers, 25-22, 25-15, 15-25, 25-12, to improve to 2-0 in the 2026 Shakey’s Super League National Invitationals on Monday, July 20, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The victory lifted UST to a 2-0 record, while CSB fell to 1-1.
The teams traded points early before Benilde opened a four-point lead, 16-12, behind an ace from Fiona Marie Inocentes. The Lady Blazers later built a 20-16 advantage before UST responded with a 6-0 run to grab a 22-20 lead.
The Golden Tigresses closed out the opening set behind back-to-back attacks from Angge Poyos, 25-22.
UST seized control early in the second set with a 5-1 lead. Benilde cut the deficit to 6-4 before the Golden Tigresses finished on a 19-11 run to take a two-set lead, 25-15.
The Lady Blazers answered with a 15-5 run midway through the third set to pull away for their lone set victory, 25-15.
After a 4-all tie in the fourth set, the Golden Tigresses used a 10-3 run to build a 14-7 advantage. UST then closed the match on an 11-5 run, punctuated by a back-row attack from Poyos, to complete the four-set victory, 25-12.
Marga Altea led the Golden Tigresses with 10 points on six attacks, one block and three aces.
The Golden Tigresses will face Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Tuesday, July 21, at the same venue. Allanee Raye C. Valeriano
