The UST Golden Tigresses advanced to the championship game of the Shakey’s Super League National Invitationals after trouncing the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Lady Knights, 25-10, 25-19, 25-12, in the semifinals on Friday, July 24, at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Golden Tigresses will face the College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers in the championship match on Sunday, July 26, at the same venue.
UST raced to a 10-1 lead in the opening set, capped by a block from Avril Bron. Letran struggled to contain the Tigresses’ offense as UST pulled away, with Marga Altea scoring back-to-back points to seal the 25-10 set victory.
The Tigresses held a slim 8-5 advantage early in the second set before unleashing a 9-5 run to stretch the lead to 17-10. UST kept the Lady Knights at bay the rest of the way to claim the set, 25-19.
Holding an 11-7 lead in the third set, UST closed the match with a 14-5 blitz, punctuated by an outside hit from Letran that sailed out, for a 25-12 victory.
