Comelec junks LTC’s bid for accreditation

Jan. 27, 2015, 5:53 p.m. - THE UST Central Commission on Elections (Comelec) has upheld its decision to deny Lakas Tomasino Coalition (LTC) accreditation as a University-wide political party after failing to submit a requirement on time.

In a resolution Monday, the Comelec said LTC had failed to provide an updated roll of members despite  several deadline extensions.

“The Commission En Banc, constituting a quorum, failed to see a valid justification as to LTC’s failure to submit the required documents on time,” the decision stated.

Thomasians rally for Students’ Code approval; CSC calls for wider support

Oct. 24, 2014, 9:09 p.m. - MORE than 200 students trooped to the Plaza Mayor Friday afternoon to demand the immediate approval of the Students’ Code, closing the week-long Students’ Rights and Welfare (STRAW) week spearheaded by the Central Student Council (CSC).

Central Board Speaker and Faculty of Civil Law Student Council President Victor Villanueva said college student councils had failed to involve students in the campaign, and should do more to increase awareness and participation.

CSC calls on Thomasians to support passage of Students’ Code

Oct. 21, 2014, 4:45 p.m. - THE CENTRAL Student Council (CSC) today urged Thomasians to participate in the campaign to finally secure approval for the proposed Students’ Code this year, in a forum at the Central Seminary gym.

“Kailangan nating aminin na hindi priority ng [UST] administration ‘yung pagpasa ng Students’ Code sa ngayon, kaya kailangan nilang [maramdaman] na gusto talaga nating maipasa ito ngayong taon,” Central Board Speaker and Civil Law Student Council President Victor Villanueva said during the annual Students’ Rights and Welfare (STRAW) Forum.

More changes to Students’ Code sought

Oct. 16, 2014, 7:38 a.m. - The proposed Students’ Code still needs revisions, UST officials said in a meeting with the Central Student Council (CSC) Wednesday, reducing the code's chances of being implemented this year.

Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Clarita Carillo said the possible room for improvement in the code was “how the ideas of the students can be phrased in the statements that they want to include in the document.”

Thomasians help in UST cleanup after ‘Glenda’

17 July 2014, 9:43 p.m. - MORE THAN 200 students trooped to UST Thursday to help clean up the campus after the onslaught of Typhoon "Glenda."

The Student Organizations Coordinating Council (SOCC) and the Central Student Council (CSC) assisted the Facilities Management Office (FMO) in a clearing and cleaning operation.

“Nakaka-overwhelm 'yung response ng Thomasian community, akala namin puro mga councils lang 'yung pupunta pero pati freshmen nag-volunteer din,” SOCC President Danisse Odiña said in an interview.
