‘Gene-editing’ is killing
I USUALLY play role-playing games with characters that are “better” versions of myself–a “perfect” Rhenn for every game. I can spend four hours on the computer clicking and setting preferences for my character: cropped hair atop a widow’s peak, jet-black eyes, a slim bod with a knack for sleek clothing, and of course a penchant for the arcane arts.
This might be why I was nothing short of astounded when the United Kingdom last February approved a researcher’s request to permanently change the DNA of human embryos.

PHOTOS expose scenes that don’t normally fall under the limelight—the stories of the underdogs, the unheard of and unrecognized.
Bergel “Geloy” Concepcion, an advertising alumnus, opts to capture scenes in Philippine streets, which have an endless supply of “underappreciated stories.”
Concepcion never saw himself pursuing a profession other than cartooning or tattooing. He was first introduced to the photography scene when he enrolled at the University’s College of Fine Arts and Design in 2008.
Then 17-year-old Concepcion fell in love with capturing the “split seconds of life” and immortalizing them in photographs.

Compass Points
BETWEEN the limbo
of sleep and wakefulness,
comes the time to yield
and surrender.
Those twin points
realign in my mind—
your firmness
and my restlessness.
They circle,
amidst whispered sentiments
that remain unanswered,
riling up nocturnal feelings,
as I retrace it all:
the widening
and narrowing breadth
between our bodies.
Still, my heart is elated
for even the most crooked
of conjoined arcs must meet
where the wandering orbit
comes to rest.

Tomasino at Iglesya noong Edsa I
