UST dominates LET boards

Oct. 27, 2014, 10:40 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY kept its place as the top-performing school in the August licensure examinations for teachers (LET) in the elementary level, and placed second in the secondary level.

UST's passing rate was slightly lower at 98.57 percent, with 138 examinees passing out of 140. Ninth placer Richtelle Pauleene Silva led this year's batch of Thomasian elementary teachers with a score of of 87.60 percent.

Thomasians rally for Students’ Code approval; CSC calls for wider support

Oct. 24, 2014, 9:09 p.m. - MORE than 200 students trooped to the Plaza Mayor Friday afternoon to demand the immediate approval of the Students’ Code, closing the week-long Students’ Rights and Welfare (STRAW) week spearheaded by the Central Student Council (CSC).

Central Board Speaker and Faculty of Civil Law Student Council President Victor Villanueva said college student councils had failed to involve students in the campaign, and should do more to increase awareness and participation.

CSC calls on Thomasians to support passage of Students’ Code

Oct. 21, 2014, 4:45 p.m. - THE CENTRAL Student Council (CSC) today urged Thomasians to participate in the campaign to finally secure approval for the proposed Students’ Code this year, in a forum at the Central Seminary gym.

“Kailangan nating aminin na hindi priority ng [UST] administration ‘yung pagpasa ng Students’ Code sa ngayon, kaya kailangan nilang [maramdaman] na gusto talaga nating maipasa ito ngayong taon,” Central Board Speaker and Civil Law Student Council President Victor Villanueva said during the annual Students’ Rights and Welfare (STRAW) Forum.

UST slips in CPA board exams

Oct. 16, 2014, 11:29 p.m. - WITH no accountancy graduates this year, the University's passing rate dropped in the October licensure examinations for certified public accountants.

UST recorded a 67.53-percent passing rate, or 52 passers out of 77 examinees. This was lower than last year’s 89.65 percent wherein 329 passed out of 367 examinees.

More changes to Students’ Code sought

Oct. 16, 2014, 7:38 a.m. - The proposed Students’ Code still needs revisions, UST officials said in a meeting with the Central Student Council (CSC) Wednesday, reducing the code's chances of being implemented this year.

Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Clarita Carillo said the possible room for improvement in the code was “how the ideas of the students can be phrased in the statements that they want to include in the document.”

UST students extend help to storm victims

Sept. 20, 2014, Saturday (1:40 p.m.) -- THOMASIANS joined relief operations Saturday for 2,700 evacuees who took refuge at Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City due to storm "Mario."

Twenty-nine Thomasians, led by the Central Student Council and the Student Organizations Coordinating Council, helped in repacking and distributing relief goods to families affected by floods. Some volunteer Nursing students also provided initial medical assessment, like checking blood pressure, for the elderly.

Honorary degree iginawad sa tagapangulo ng Metrobank para sa kanyang kawanggawa

7 Agosto 2014, 9:20 p.m. - GINAWARAN ng UST si George Ty, tagapangulo ng Metrobank Group of Companies, ng honorary doctorate degree sa humanidades dahil sa iba't ibang proyektong pangkawanggawa na pinamunuan niya.

Ayon kay Rektor P. Herminio Dagohoy, O.P., iginagawad ng Unibersidad ang mga honorary doctorate degrees bilang tanda ng karangalan at respeto sa mga karapat-dapat na Pilipinong naging instrumento ng pag-unlad.

“We confer the honorary degree [on him] not only for his achievements in the banking industry but for his works that embody Thomasian values of commitment, competence and compassion,” ani Dagohoy sa kanyang talumpati sa Medicine Auditorium, Huwebes.

UST pumangalawa sa Nutrition boards

5 Agosto 2014, 6:52 p.m. - PUMANGALAWA muli ang UST sa listahan ng top-performing schools sa nakalipas na Nutritionist-Dietitian licensure examinations noong Hulyo, ngunit bahagyang bumaba ang marka nito.

Ayon sa datos mula sa Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), nagtala ang Unibersidad ng 90.53-percent passing rate, kung saan 86 na Tomasino mula sa 95 na kumuha ng pagsusulit ang pumasa.

Bahagyang mas mababa ito sa 95.12 percent o 78 na pumasa mula sa 82 kumuha noong nakaraang taon.

Walang Tomasino ang nakapasok sa listahan ng sampung nanguna sa pagsusulit.

Accountancy laglag sa off-season CPA board exam

2 Agosto 2014, 8:28 a.m. - NAGTALA ang Unibersidad ng mababang passing rate sa nakaraang off-season licensure examinations noong Hulyo para sa mga Certified Public Accountant, kung saan 65 Tomasino lamang ang nakapasa mula sa163 kumuha ng pagsusulit.

Ayon sa datos mula sa Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), nakakuha ang UST ng 39.88-percent passing rate ngayong taon, higit na mas mababa kumpara sa 50 percent o 52 na pumasa mula sa 104 na kumuha ng pagsusulit noong nakaraang taon.

Wala ring Tomasinong nakapasok sa listahan ng sampung nanguna sa pagsusulit.

Educ elects new student council president

28 July 2014, 9:44 p.m. - AFTER losing to overwhelming abstentions in college-wide polls last February, Juan Carlo de la Paz of Aklas-Sakto party won the student council presidency at the College of Education in special elections on Monday.

De la Paz, a Secondary Education student, bested Library Science major John Michael Calderon, after getting 18 votes from the total 28 class presidents who participated in the special elections.

During the previous college-wide polls, De la Paz ran unopposed but failed to win the presidency after 727 out of 1,255 students abstained.

Special Education student Bria Reyes was also elected as the new external vice president.
