Various Thomasian Artists exhibited collections of distinct yet complementary works at the Art Fair Philippines 2026 at Circuit Corporate Center One in Makati.
Moving from last year’s theme of memory and experience, Art Fair Philippines 2026 highlighted themes of modernity, diversity, and the interconnectedness of art across the country, regions and the globe.
Thomasian sculptor Richard Buxani displayed a series of sculptures that underscore the lifelong, essential, and boundless presence of nature and trees in daily life.
Buxani takes a different approach in this collection, shifting from myth and history to a lens focusing on the environment’s essence and abundance—manifested through his signature metal-welding creative process.
“I’m creating stories from my experience…I had a collection of bonsai trees before. So [now], I wanted to make a more lasting impression,” Buxani said in an interview with the Varsitarian.
In his 26x15x11-in. sculpture “#85 Purplebirch,” Buxani features a golden bonsai tree perched atop a purple erratic figure—highlighting the environment’s complexities as the foundation of life and experience using copper, brass, purple agate, and a steel base.
Other works of Thomasian artists exhibited were by Juvenal Sansó, Carlo Magno, Roel Obemio, Christian Mirang, Bullet Dematera, Naomi Banal, Glenn Perez, CJ Tañedo, Meneline Wong, Cid Reyes, Ramon Orlina, and Jilson Tiu.
