AN ALUMNUS of the UST journalism program has earned a special citation in an international sports photography competition.
Aaron Favila, a photographer for the global news agency The Associated Press (AP), received a Special Merit award for his photograph titled “Focus.”
This year’s competition drew a record 23,130 entries from 4,120 photographers representing more than 123 countries.
Favila, who obtained his Journalism degree from UST in 1996, has been a photographer of the American news agency for over two decades.
Throughout his career, Favila has garnered international recognition, including a first-place award in the Environmental Issues category at the 15th Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand’s Asia Photojournalism Contest in 2012, and an honorable mention at the 2024 Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar.
In 2025, Favila was named a trustee of the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines.
The World Sports Photography Awards, which honors excellence in sport photography across 24 sporting categories, was founded in 2020.
