TWO FACULTY members of the Faculty of Arts and Letters have been elected to the board of trustees of the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE).
Asst. Prof. Faye Abugan, who won 34 votes, and Asst. Prof. Jose Arsenio Salandanan, who drew 42 votes, will serve a two-year term starting Oct. 26, as announced on the association’s Facebook page on Oct. 13.
Abugan and Salandanan were among the top 15 members of the new board, who will elect the executive officers from among themselves.
They will take their oath on Oct. 25 during the PACE 50th Anniversary Gala Night, Homecoming, and Recognition Ceremony at the University of the Philippines Los Baños.
A UST communication arts alumna, Abugan is teaching under the Departments of Communication and Journalism.
She had served as the business manager and assistant director of the UST Communications Bureau, where she helped establish the University’s broadcasting arm Tiger Media Network (TMN) in 2018.
Under Abugan’s leadership, TMN gained local and international recognitions, including the Philippine Student Quill Awards and the United States-based Intercollegiate Broadcasting System.
Salandanan, who handles advertising, public relations and integrated marketing communication courses, previously served as chairperson of the now-defunct Department of Communication and Media Studies.
Also a UST communication arts alumnus, he was a founding member of the Thomasian Media Circle and founding organizer of USTv awards.
Salandanan was a member of the PACE board of trustees for a number of terms, alongside Asst. Prof. Gwenetha Pusta.
He was also the association’s vice president for Luzon from 2021 to 2023.
PACE, established in 1975, is a non-stock, non-profit organization of professionals engaged in communication education and media practice in the Philippines.
