ALUMNI from the defunct College of Architecture and Fine Arts came together for the launch of the art book titled, “Creative Journeys,” at The Catalyst Coworking Space Manila, on July 27.
The book detailed the life experiences of 25 advertising arts alumni from the class of 1984 in the 40 years that had passed since their graduation.
The compilation was instigated by Daryl de Leon Descallar, a visual artist and designer, to commemorate the batch’s 40th anniversary.
In an interview with the Varsitarian, Descallar expressed his desire for readers and young creatives to be inspired by the book, as he believes every artist struggles through the creative process.
“It’s full of stories about the struggles that artists go through, which is not uncommon,” Descallar said. “The struggle bears more fruit.”
Descallar said art continues to have the same power as it did during their prime.
Moreover, art will always be a powerful tool in communication.
“If a picture paints a thousand words, then it will take a thousand words to paint a picture,” Descallar said.
Copies of “Creative Journeys” will soon be available on online shopping platforms. Those interested may contact Descallar by email.
The book is available in the Filipiniana section of the National Library of the Philippines. UST’s Miguel de Benavides Library will soon receive copies of the book. D.N.C. Cortes
