THE UNIVERSITY will receive a total of 19 awards in the 2026 Philippine Student Quill Awards, the annual nationwide competition honoring outstanding communication and creative works.
The Varsitarian, the 98-year-old official student publication, will get three awards for its multimedia and journalism projects that tackled campus affairs, national issues and sports.
Among the publication’s recognized works is “Welcome to My House,” its UAAP Season 88 First Semester Primer that made history by becoming the first Philippine student publication to win both the national and regional levels of the Society of Professional Journalists’ (SPJ) Mark of Excellence Awards in the United States.
The ‘V’ also won for its special print issue and multimedia campaign, “UAAP IS HERE,” also for UAAP Season 88, which had previously earned an honorable mention in the Best Social Media Engagement category of the College Media Association’s (CMA) Apple Awards in New York.
Completing the publication’s Quill-winning entries is “Thomasians walk out: Students condemn corruption, call for accountability,” which reported the Sept. 29 Thomasian walkout against alleged government corruption over “ghost” flood-control projects.
The Flame, the official student publication of the Faculty of Arts and Letters, emerged with nine awards.
TOMCAT-UST, the University’s events management and media production student organization, followed with four recognitions.
Tiger Media Network, the official broadcasting arm of UST, earned three awards, bringing the tally to 19.
The awarding ceremony will be held on Aug. 27 at the Solaire Resort.
Winners will be awarded either an Award of Merit or an Award of Excellence, depending on their entries’ scores on a global seven-point scale.
Entries with at least a 5.25 score win a Merit Award, while entries with a 5.75 score or higher win an Award of Excellence.
