TWO Thomasian choirs have qualified for the semifinals of this year’s National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA), the country’s most prestigious competition for young musical talents.
The Liturgikon Vocal Ensemble and the UST Chorus of Arts and Letters both qualified for the senior choir category, along with 13 other choral groups across the country, three of them representing the NCR.
Liturgikon is composed of Conservatory of Music students and specializes in sacred music, while UST Chorus of Arts and Letters is the 30-year-old official choral group of the Faculty of Arts and Letters.
Meanwhile, the Young Voices of the Philippines (YVP) qualified for the children’s choir category.
YVP was founded by Conservatory of Music faculty member Maria Theresa Roldan and her husband, UST alumnus Jude Roldan, in 2020. It is one of the scholar choirs of the Treble Choir Association of the Philippines.
The elimination rounds for the choir categories were held on June 19.
This year’s NAMCYA has the theme ‘Kanta ‘Ta: Cultivating Aspiration, Crafting Excellence.”
The national finals will be held from Nov. 17 to 23 at the Metropolitan Theater.
