The UST Central Commission on Elections (Comelec) will switch back to manual voting and canvassing for local and central student council elections this year, abandoning electronic voting that had been riddled with technical problems.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Comelec said manual voting and canvassing were “deemed best and necessary.”
“Rest assured that the integrity and safety of the ballots are taken into account,” the post read.
Arvin Carlo Bersonda, Comelec chairman, said the commission won’t disclose further information on the decision as of posting time.
The commission said standard operating procedures mandated by the UST Students’ Election Code would still be followed.
In the previous elections, the proclamation of elected officers was delayed due to a glitch in the downloading of votes from the e-Learning Access Program, the online learning system of the University.
Comelec is the regulatory body of all election-related matters in the University and is composed of representatives from different colleges and faculties.
It was EdTech’s decision not to help out in facilitating the elections this year – as stated in the memo they publicly released last year. Thus, the manual voting again. Hope we can include that here. 🙂
