THE UST Miguel de Benavides Library opened individual study rooms at the “Learning Commons Mezzanine” on Sept. 1 to accommodate Thomasians who need space for online classes.

The eight rooms are intended for online classes and are exclusive toundergraduate and graduate students and academic staff.

Maria Cecilia Lobo, chief librarian, said the project was first considered during the pandemic when students and faculty needed private spaces for virtual classes.

“Due to time constraints and renovation priorities, this project has only recently come to fruition,” Lobo told the Varsitarian.

“This initiative reflects the evolving needs and preferences of library users, demonstrating our commitment to providing an optimal study environment,” she added.

Reservation must be made at least two hours before use with the reference and information services staff that manages the rooms.

Each cubicle may be reserved for up to three hours per day. It is available from 8:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Interested users must present their valid UST identification card and a proof of online class schedule.

Consumption and bringing in of food are prohibited, but covered drinks stored in spill-proof containers are allowed.

The library said the rooms are not intended for seminars, office work, club meetings, or extracurricular activities.

More library facilities underway

The Internet Area in the Science and Technology Section in the library is set to be converted into four multifunctional rooms.

“Construction will begin in coordination with the Facilities Management Office to ensure that services remain uninterrupted and to minimize any inconvenience for library users,” Lobo said.

The library also opened additional multifunctional rooms on Tuesday, Sept. 2 to provide space for collaborative work. Czeantal Naomi P. Delos Santos
