THE UNIVERSITY’s medicine program was ranked among the world’s best universities in the medicine subject of the Quacquarelli-Symonds (QS) World Subject Rankings 2026 edition.

UST Medicine retained its standing in the 701-850 bracket worldwide, while landing second in the Philippines.

“While traditional leaders in the US, UK, and parts of Europe continue to dominate many disciplines, we are seeing significant momentum from systems across Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America,” said Ben Sowter, QS senior vice president, in a press release.

Medicine is the lone subject to secure a ranking across the University’s academic units this year.

It scored 41.2 in academic reputation, 56 in employer reputation, 50.9 in citations, 39.5 in h-index, and 38.4 in international research network.

Last year, modern languages made its debut in the 301-350 bracket, but fell short of a spot in the latest rankings.

Other subjects grouped under the life sciences and medicine area, which included UST’s nursing and biological sciences, did secure a ranking in 2025.

The latest QS World Subject Ranking covered 55 academic disciplines with five broad faculties: arts and humanities, life sciences, natural sciences, engineering and technology, and social sciences and management.

QS used five components in ranking universities by subject, including academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations per paper, international research network, and the h-index that measures research impact and productivity.
