THE UNIVERSITY has addressed the “unfortunate incident” surrounding the recent passing of a 22-year-old College of Rehabilitation Sciences senior, urging privacy for his family and emphasizing its commitment to Thomasians’ well-being.

“On behalf of the community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones during this difficult time,” UST said in a statement on May 22, five days after the death of BS Physical Therapy student Junver Toledo.

“We acknowledge the grief and pain that this loss brings to all who knew and loved Junver. As we accompany their family in mourning, we ask everyone to respect their privacy,” it continued.

Toledo took his life on May 17, according to a Facebook post by his father, Oliver.

The UST physical therapy student was set to graduate in June but allegedly failed a subject — which he had taken twice — after falling short by only 1.5%, according to posts from his relatives and a note he had left behind.

UST said it had already extended help to “those closest to Junver and all those in need.”

“We remain committed to the well-being of all our stakeholders,” it said.

“Our counselors stand ready to provide support to Thomasian students, especially during these trying times,” it continued. “Our stakeholders are also assisted by our University psychiatrists and psychologists from our institutional and volunteer groups.”
