THE UNIVERSITY has appointed 37 new administrative and academic unit officials across UST Manila, Manila Annex (UST MAx), and General Santos (GenSan) campuses, the Office of the Secretary General announced in a circular dated Aug. 11. 

UST MANILA

The Faculty of Medicine and Surgery has new chairpersons for 18 of its departments: 

  • Prof. Encarnita Ampil – Department of Neuroscience and Behavioral Medicine
  • Prof. Ma. Teresa Bautista – Department of Preventive Medicine
  • Prof. Ma. Rosario Cabansag – Department of Physiology 
  • Assoc. Prof. Ma. Cartrini Cruz – Department of Radiology 
  • Prof. Ida Lim – Department of Clinical Epidemiology 
  • Prof. Agnes Llamas – Department of Pharmacology 
  • Assoc. Prof. Maria Teresa Luna – Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology 
  • Assoc. Prof. Catherine Macaraig – Department of Ophthalmology 
  • Prof. Bien Matawaran – Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition 
  • Asst. Prof. Karl Morales – Department of Surgery 
  • Assoc. Prof. Roland Panaligan – Department of Medical Ethics 
  • Assoc. Prof. Marcellus Ramirez – Department of Medicine

Two new officers in charge were also named: Asst. Prof. Solita De Jesus (Anesthesiology) and Asst. Prof. Patricia Syson (Legal Medicine Unit).

Asst. Prof. Rommel Romano was named chief program officer of the Medical Informatics Center.

Two appointees were named to the Office of Planning and Quality Management (OPQM) following a streamlining of the University’s quality assurance operations.  

Assoc. Prof. Ma. Fylene Gardiner, who previously served as the office executive assistant,  is the new institutional quality management officer. 

Assoc. Prof. Maureen Gelle-Jimenez, former human resource department director, is now the program quality management officer at the OPQM.

Program quality assurance was previously handled by the separate Academic Programs Quality Assurance Office. 

The new acting director of the UST Graduate School – Center for Conservation of Cultural Property and Environment in the Tropics is Beverlyn Bautista, who previously served as its officer in charge. 

Walner Saturno, a mathematics teacher at the UST Junior High School, is the new school secretary. 

The Faculty of Arts and Letters has new department chairs, namely:

  • Jade Bretaña – Department of Sociology 
  • Asst. Prof. Edelberto Bunquin – Department of Legal Management
  • Jonathan Libut – Department of Asian Studies 
  • Prof. Jeremaiah Opiniano – Department of Journalism

UST MAx (Santa Rosa – Laguna)

Fr. Cecilio Magboo, O.P., an instructor at the Faculty of Sacred Theology, was appointed chaplain of  UST MAx at Santa Rosa, Laguna.  

UST General Santos

The GenSan campus also welcomed six new officials.

Joy Abraham is the new director of human resource. She previously served as the assistant director for support staff.  

Asst. Prof. Eduardo Cabalang Jr., the former assistant director of the Laboratory Equipment and Supply Office (LESO), was named officer in charge for research. 

Mershen Gania will serve as the assistant administrator of LESO.

Jay Galleno will take charge of the Office of Student Admissions and Records as its director. 

Asst. Prof. Victor Reyes was appointed as the new director of the Communications Bureau of the GenSan campus, replacing Silver Hiponia, who was named director of the Office for Student Affairs.
