UST names new acting vice rector for academic affairs, 23 other University officials

THE UNIVERSITY has appointed 24 new officials to administrative and academic units, the Office of the Secretary General announced on Aug. 1. 

Prof. Patricia Empleo was appointed acting vice rector for academic affairs, replacing Prof. Cheryl Peralta, who had held the position since 2017. 

Empleo had served as the UST Alfredo M. Velayo – College of Accountancy dean since 2013. 

Ian Punsalan will serve as executive assistant at the Office of the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs. 

Asst. Prof. Fermin Yabut was named acting dean of the Accountancy college, Asst. Prof. Eliseo Panganiban III, assistant dean, and Asst. Prof. Albert Cruz, college secretary.

Assoc. Prof. Jennifer Aguilar, formerly assistant dean of the College of Fine Arts and Design (CFAD), was named dean, succeeding Asst. Prof. Christie Que. 

Asst. Prof. Romano Macaisa (CFAD) and Asst. Prof. Ryan Ramirez (Faculty of Engineering) were appointed assistant deans.

Lallanita Rayala was named acting faculty secretary of the Graduate School of Law.

Asst. Prof. Ma. Zenia Rodriguez, a former hospital official and Artlets faculty secretary, was appointed faculty secretary of the Graduate School. 

Assoc. Prof. Ritzmond Loa was named secretary of the College of Nursing, succeeding Asst. Prof. Genecar Pe Benito.

Senior Teacher John Medina was appointed assistant principal for curriculum and instruction of UST Senior High School, succeeding Prof. Rodrigo Litao.

University-wide department chairpersons were also named: Asst. Prof. Leidy Alnajes (Filipino), Assoc. Prof. Arlene Calara (History), Assoc. Prof. Myreen Cleofe (Psychology). Asst. Prof. Joram Corcuera (English), and Assoc. Prof. Dino Tordesillas (Biological Sciences). 

Assoc. Prof. Ralph Galan was named director of the Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies. 

Prof. Melvin Marcial was appointed director of the Henry Sy Sr. Hall Faculty of Medicine and Surgery Simulation and Research Center. 

Prof. Jeremaiah Opiniano was returned as director of the Research Center for Social Sciences and Education, while the officer in charge, Assoc. Prof. Katrina Topacio, was named assistant director. 

Prof. Karen Santiago was named director of the Office of International Relations and Programs. 

Senior Teacher Efraim Fernandez was appointed assistant director for student formation and leadership in the Office for Student Affairs. 

Prof. Elizabeth Arenas will serve as program quality management officer.  

Appointments of new academic and administrative officials took effect on Aug. 1.
