THE UNIVERSITY has partnered with the city government of Makati to offer training grants to 25 selected elementary science teachers under the Teacher Effectiveness and Competence Honing (Teach) program.

Makati Mayor Nancy Binay and UST officials signed a memorandum of agreement at Makati City Hall on Oct. 27.

The UST College of Education will lead program implementation after its successful collaboration with teachers of the Pasig city government.

“We are happy to partner with the City of Makati in capacitating our teachers, especially as the College of Education marks its 100th founding anniversary next year,” the University’s Facebook post read.

The Teach program seeks to strengthen the teaching competencies of the Makati’s public school teachers through the Certificate in Science Teaching Program, a six-month, 27-unit post-baccalaureate course focused on science content, professional education, and outcomes-based instruction.

The city has allocated P1.5 million from its general fund to finance the training.

The program will run from October 2025 to May 2026. Each scholar will be required to serve at least one year in Makati’s public school system upon completion of the program.

Joining Binay in the signing were Ma. Evalou Agustin, schools division superintendent of the Department of Education in Makati and Prof. Cheryl Peralta, UST vice rector for academic affairs.
