THE UNIVERSITY is set to mount activities ahead of the opening ceremonies of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 88 on Sept. 19. 

Light shows, a parade, an exhibition game, and a concert will be held to drum up UST’s hosting of the UAAP season, which will have the theme “Strength in Motion, Hope in Action.”

From Sept. 8 to 18, the Main Building will light up every 6:30 p.m., featuring the colors and chants of the UAAP member schools. 

The schedule of the light shows for each UAAP member-school is as follows: 

  • University of the Philippines – Sept. 8
  • Adamson University – Sept. 9
  • Ateneo de Manila University – Sept. 11
  • De La Salle University – Sept. 12
  • Far Eastern University – Sept. 15 
  • National University – Sept. 16
  • University of the East – Sept. 17
  • University of Santo Tomas – Sept. 18

In a memorandum, the Office of the Secretary General said the light show celebrates the Jubilee of Hope and the University’s mission to spread the light. 

On. Sept. 12, festivities will begin with “Tigers’ Fair,” which will run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be interactive booths and meet-ups with student-athletes. 

A kickoff program for the Thomasian community will start at 1 p.m. at the Quadricentennial Pavilion (QPav). It will be followed by the Thomasian Athletes’ Parade at 4 p.m. 

An exhibition game is set between the UST Golden Tigresses and professional volleyball team Petro Gazz Angels, which will take place at QPav. Entrance will be on a first-come, first-served basis. 

The “Journey of Hope: UAAP Season 88 Opening Ceremonies” will happen on Sept. 19, beginning with a Eucharistic Celebration in QPav at 2 p.m. 

The opening ceremonies will start 6 p.m. at the UST Grandstand and Open Field, followed by the “Hope Concert” at 8 p.m.

Afternoon and evening classes on Sept. 19 will be suspended, and no assessments will be administered during the day. 

The opening ceremonies on Sept. 19 are open to all Thomasians and delegates from UAAP member-schools.

Each UAAP member school is set to receive 1,000 complimentary tickets for the opening festivities. 

A Grand Yellow Day was declared on Sept. 12 and Sept. 19, with Thomasians in the Manila campus, the Annex in Santa Rosa, Laguna, and the General Santos campus encouraged to wear their best yellow outfits, subject to the University’s dress code.
