THE UNIVERSITY will mark Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the 40-day season of Lent, with a mass confession on Feb. 18.
A mass confession or Kumpisalang Bayan will be held at 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Benavides Garden.
A University-wide Mass will be offered at 5:15 p.m. at Plaza Mayor.
The Santísimo Rosario Parish will impose ashes on massgoers at 6:15 a.m., 7:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. at the parish church.
The parish is collecting old palm fronds or palaspas from the previous Palm Sunday. Parishioners may drop them at the designated box near the parish office.
The Way of the Cross or Stations of the Cross is set on all Fridays of Lent (Feb. 20, 27, March 6, 13, 20, 27) at the Benavides Garden, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Catholics aged 18 to 59 are required to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, or eat one full meal and two smaller meals throughout the day.
All Catholics aged 14 and up must abstain from eating meat during Ash Wednesday, all Fridays of Lent, and Good Friday.
These acts of penance are two of the “three pillars of Lent,” along with prayer and almsgiving.
The University is also set to hold a University-wide retreat on March 4-6 at the Quadricentennial Pavilion.
ALAB 2026, the three-day lenten recollection will bear the theme “Pananampalataya, Pag-asa, Pag-ibig,” taken from the Main Building’s “Tria Haec” monument representing the theological virtues of faith, hope and love.
