THE UNIVERSITY, along with four other leading Philippine higher education institutions (HEI), has been invited to present academic programs to American students during a university fair on May 31 at the Philippine Center New York.

Rector Fr. Richard Ang, O.P. will represent UST during the fair, which will also feature Ateneo de Manila University, Cebu Institute of Technology University, De La Salle University, and the University of the Philippines.

The fair will allow “students, parents, and educators [to] explore world-class academic programs from leading Philippine universities,” according to the Philippine Consulate General in New York, the organizer.

Aside from Ang, UST will be represented by Asst. to the Rector for UST Santa Rosa Philipina Marcelo, Graduate School of Law Dean Jacqueline Lopez-Kaw, and Prof. Nestor Ong of the QS/THE Rankings Office.

Levine Lao, the director of the UST Office for Grants and Partnerships in Higher Education, and Dr. Sheryl Dionisio, the director of the UST Health Service, will also attend the fair.

During their stay in New York, the UST officials will participate in a celebration of the 127th year of Philippine independence on June 1.

They will parade on Madison Avenue after a Mass, followed by a street fair and cultural festival.

Top Filipino acts are expected to perform during the event, though they have yet to be announced by the organizer, the Philippine Independence Day Council, Inc. (PIDCI).

This year’s parade will carry the theme “Embrace and Preserve Our Culture by Uniting and Empowering the Future,: which, according to PIDCI President Arman David, serves as a “reminder of the strength we derive from our shared history and the rich diversity of our customs and traditions.”

Like the four other Philippine universities in the fair, UST is a leading HEI in the country, having placed third in the most recent Times Higher Education rankings and fourth in the Quacquarelli Symonds rankings.
