THE ATENEO Human Rights Center (AHRC) will hold “Rights in Focus: Human Rights in Campus Journalism Summit 2025,” on Dec. 6 at the Ateneo Professional Schools in Makati City.

The summit will gather campus journalists and media practitioners to promote ethical and human rights–based reporting in student publications.

The event is in partnership with UST’s The Varsitarian, Philippine Collegian of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, UP College of Media and Communication’s Tinig ng Plaridel, San Benda University’s The Bedan, Ateneo de Manila University’s The Guidon, De La Salle College of Saint Benilde’s The Benildean, Far Eastern University’s FEU Advocate, and De La Salle University’s The Lasallian.

It will feature keynote talks, plenary sessions, and workshops on trauma-informed reporting, online safety, and fact-checking.

According to AHRC, the summit seeks to equip young journalists with tools and frameworks for rights-sensitive storytelling, enabling them to become “defenders of truth and advocates of social justice.”

The event will also mark the launch and ceremonial turnover of the Human Rights Primer for Campus Journalism, a resource developed from AHRC’s baseline survey on human rights awareness among campus journalists in Metro Manila.

Participants will take part in a collaborative session titled “Co-Creating the Campus Journalism and Human Rights Agenda 2025” and sign the Human Rights Commitment for Campus Journalists wall as a pledge to uphold press freedom and ethical reporting.

Founded in 1986, AHRC is a university-based institution that promotes and protects human rights through education, research, and policy initiatives.
