Vatican appoints UST Central Seminary rector

THE HOLY See’s Dicastery for the Clergy has appointed Fr. Clarence Victor Marquez, O.P., as the new rector of the UST Central Seminary, according to an announcement from the seminary on Wednesday, July 22.

Marquez has been serving as the inter-diocesan seminary’s acting rector since December 2024, succeeding Fr. Quirico Pedregosa Jr., O.P., who reached the end of his third and final term.

The decree issued by the dicastery granted Marquez a term of four years, effective July 1.

The Dominican priest previously served as rector and president of Colegio de San Juan de Letran Manila. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1995.

Marquez served as the acting vice rector of the University from 2007 to 2008, vice rector for finance from 2006 to 2007, and director of the Institute of Religion from 2004 to 2008.

The newly appointed rector obtained his bachelor’s and doctorate degrees in Sacred Theology at the Ecclesiastical Faculties, and took his licenciate in Sacred Scripture at the Pontificium Institutum in Rome. E.M.B. Mejia
