AFTER repeated postponements due to heavy rain, the Thomasian Freshmen Party will finally push through on Monday, Sept. 7, with Filipino bands The Juans and SUD headlining the welcome concert.
The freshman party, originally scheduled on Aug. 7, will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion, with entry beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Jenia Perez, officer-in-charge and supervising producer of Thomasian Media Circle and Talents (Tomcat), said the team had been working overtime to prepare for the event despite multiple schedule changes and unpredictable weather conditions.
“We’ve just been ironing things out and maximizing everything we can, from onsite meetings and rehearsals to adjusting to the online setting given the changes in our weather,” Perez told the Varsitarian.
Perez said freshmen could expect “another festive welcome,” with performances meant not only to welcome them to the University but also to give them a “breather” as they adjust to campus life.
“All their excitement and anticipation have been seen and felt by the team, and we can’t help but feel even more ecstatic to finally show them what we’ve been preparing for,” Perez said.
Filipino pop band The Juans, known for the hits “Hindi Tayo Pwede” and “Balisong,” and alternative soul band SUD, known for tracks such as “Sila” and “Dumaloy,” will be the main acts at the welcome party.
Other performers include electronic dance music producer DJ Shuae, “Tunog Tomasino” winners Golf and Sunsets and Jyve!, and Thomasian dance troupes UST Prime and BA Dauncén.
Freshmen ticketholders may enter the venue starting at 3:30 p.m., with the concert scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
Tickets will be valid only until 5 p.m., after which non-ticket holders may be admitted subject to seat availability.
Students must present their registration form, a screenshot of their MyUSTe account and a valid ID upon entry.
The event will follow a first-come, first-served seating arrangement. Food and drinks will not be allowed inside the venue.
Attendees are required to follow the University’s dress code and are encouraged to bring the lightstick distributed during the freshmen ROARientation.
The Thomasian Freshmen Party, part of the University’s onboarding activities, is held annually to welcome first-year students at the start of the academic year.
