THOSE who have lost their way in life and feel confusion should turn to the Virgin Mary for guidance, Baltimore Archbishop William Lori said during the Mass celebrating the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Aug. 15.
Lori, the supreme chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, reminded the faithful that Mary, as a mother, will help Christians find their way back to God.
“It’s so easy to lose our way, in times of illness or financial difficulty or just in the course of the daily grind, we may feel confused about where we’re going or about what our life means or where we are headed,” Lori said during his homily at the Manila Cathedral.
“When we feel this way, let us turn to Mary, and ask her to help us find the way.”
Describing Mary as “poor in spirit, pure of heart,” Lori recalled how she had already been embodying the eight beatitudes long before Jesus started preaching.
“The Virgin Mary is always with us, but always ahead of us, the way a loving mother anticipates the needs of her children.
He reminded Catholics to look at Mary as a “sign of hope and comfort” in the journey of life.
“In our travels, whether it’s a long dangerous trip or a missionary journey, or simply our routine comings and goings, we call upon Mary to go ahead of us, to keep us safe along the way.”
The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated every Aug. 15 to honor Mary’s assumption into heaven or her travel from the earthly life to heavenly glory.
