POPE Francis has set the canonization dates of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, O.P., patron of UST Senior High School (SHS), and Blessed Carlo Acutis, the first millennial saint, during two Jubilee 2025 celebrations.
“I want to say that next year, during the Jubilee for Adolescents, I will canonize Blessed Carlo Acutis, and that on the Jubilee for Young People, next year, I will canonize Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati,” the Pope said during his weekly general audience at St. Peter’s Square on Nov. 20.
The Jubilee for Adolescents is set on April 25 to 27 while the Jubilee of the Youth will be on July 28 to Aug. 3.
According to the Diocese of Assisi, Acutis’s canonization Mass is slated for April 27 at St. Peter’s Square.
Acutis secured the path to becoming the Church’s first millennial saint after the pontiff acknowledged a second miracle attributed to him on May 23.
His canonization was petitioned by the Diocese of Assisi in 2013. Seven years later, Pope Francis beatified Acutis.
The Italian tech-savvy teen devoted his life to the Eucharist and tried to attend daily Masses as he could during his childhood.
Being efficient with computers, Acutis developed a website dedicated to spreading the devotion to the Eucharist by curating Eucharistic miracles.
Acutis died of acute promyelocytic leukemia on Oct. 12, 2006, at the age of 15.
Meanwhile, Frassati was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1990.
His canonization was initially announced by the Vatican on April 27.
The Italian activist and member of the Third Order of St. Dominic was also dubbed the “Man of the Eight Beatitudes.”
As a political and social activist, Frassati joined the St. Vincent de Paul Society at the age of 17 to dedicate himself to the service of the poor and sick.
Frassati died in 1925 at the age of 24 due to polio.
Aside from being UST SHS patron, Frassati also has a building named after him that houses the College of Information and Computing Sciences and the SHS.
The 2025 Jubilee Year will begin this Christmas Eve with the opening of the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica.
