MANILA Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula has named Fr. Isidro Abaño, O.P. as acting parish priest of the Santisimo Rosario Parish, following the end of Fr. Paul Talavera, O.P.’s six-year term.

Abaño, whose appointment was signed on Jan. 9, assumed the post after serving as parish vicar or the assistant to the parish priest.

The appointment was confirmed by the Santisimo Rosario Parish in a Facebook post.

Abaño is the regent of the UST Faculty of Civil Law and director of the UST Museum.

He finished his bachelor’s degree in theology in 1984 and his licentiate in theology in 1995, both at UST.

Abaño, who served as UST secretary general from 2003 to 2009, was ordained to the priesthood in 1985.

Talavera, the 15th UST parish priest is set to join a new Dominican mission to the British territory of Gibraltar.

The new parish priest will be named after the conclusion of the Dominican Province of the Philippines’ general chapter, which commenced last Jan 6.

The Santisimo Rosario Church, which also serves as the University chapel, was declared a parish on March 21, 1942 by decree of Manila Archbishop Michael O’Doherty.
