MANILA Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula has appointed Fr. Jade Licuanan, an alumnus of the UST Faculty of Engineering, as the new rector and parish priest of the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno or Quiapo Church.

Appointed on Jan. 29, Licuanan had been head of the Manila Archdiocesan Commission on Youth for two decades.

He will replace Balanga bishop-elect Rufino Sescon Jr., who will be consecrated on Feb. 25 and installed as bishop of Balanga on March 1.

Ordained priest in 2001, Licuanan studied at the Holy Apostles Senior Seminary and the San Carlos Seminary Graduate School of Theology. He served as formator of the latter in 2015.

In 2022, he was appointed parochial administrator of San Felipe Neri Parish in Mandaluyong and later as its parish priest. He will be succeeded in the parish post by Fr. Cesar Buhat.

Licuanan is also the executive secretary of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Youth.

Under Sescon’s tenure, Quiapo Church was elevated from an archdiocesan shrine to a national shrine in 2023.
