UST THEOLOGY alumnus Fr. Ronald Anthony Timoner was appointed by Pope Francis on April 2 as the new bishop of the Diocese of Pagadian in Zamboanga del Sur.
The Pagadian diocese has been without a prelate for more than a year since the death of Bishop Ronald Lunas in January 2024.
Timoner has been serving as Daet’s diocesan administrator since last year.
Born in Daet, Camarines Norte on Aug. 13, 1971, Timoner studied philosophy at the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary, Naga City, and obtained his sacred theology degree at UST in 1995.
Timoner, 53, then earned a licentiate in theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas or the Angelicum.
He was ordained priest on May 1, 1997 for the Diocese of Daet, where he served in various capacities, including as parish priest, chancellor, and vicar general.
The bishop-elect also served as parish vicar of Our Lady of Candelaria in Paracale in 1997 and Saint Francis of Assisi in Talisay in 1998.
He was spiritual director at the Holy Trinity College Seminary in Labo, Camarines Norte and prefect of discipline and procurator in 1998 and 2000, respectively.
Timoner became chaplain of the Church of Saint Thomas in Milan, Italy in 2004 during his study leave.
He is the younger brother of Fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, O.P., the first Asian head of the Dominican Order and the UST grand chancellor.
The dates of Timoner’s episcopal consecration and installation as Pagadian bishop have yet to be announced.
