THE UNIVERSITY has released a safety and security advisory ahead of the grand Paskuhan concert on Friday, Dec. 19.

Thomasians may access the Manila campus starting 6 a.m., with the cut-off period “determined as conditions require by the UST Central Committee University Events.”

Parameters include crowd density and site capacity, the Office of the Secretary General said.

Announcements regarding entry cut-offs will be posted on the official Facebook pages of UST and the Central Student Council.

Assoc. Prof. Juliano Parena, director of the Campus Safety and Security Office, earlier said the crowd count would be updated every 10 minutes.

“So it used to be, we ask for the reports every 30 minutes. Now we want it to be every 10 minutes, para mas mabilis namin makita ang pagtaas niya,” Parena said during the Nov. 27 information session.

All attendees must undergo the three-layered security inspection procedure, starting with the tapping of the UST identification card on the ID tapping system at the gates.

Entry of alumni is at Gate 11 (Dapitan Street). They must present their alumni card upon entry.

Attendees, who will undergo bag inspection and frisking, are advised to refrain from bringing large bags and prohibited items, such as:

  • deadly weapons, including but not limited to, firearms, knives, batons, and any pointed and sharp objects;
  • illegal drugs or controlled substances;
  • alcoholic beverages;
  • cigarettes or e-cigarettes;
  • laser pens, laser pointers, or similar focused-light devices;
  • flammable items or liquids, including aerosols, fireworks, lighters, and candles; and
  • items in glass bottles or glass containers (i.e, perfume).

These items, which will be confiscated, will be endorsed to the Office for Student Affairs for proper disposal.

Deadly weapons or illegal drugs will be reported and turned over to authorities.

Attendees may claim confiscated items during the first week of Term 2 classes.

Upon passing security at campus gates, a Tyvek or synthetic and waterproof wristband will be placed on the attendee’s right wrist for identification and access validation.

Security command posts are stationed at the corner of Gonzales and Osmeña drives, while Health Service and Red Cross stations are scattered around the campus.

Specialized K9 units will be deployed across UST. Thomasians are advised to avoid approaching the K9 units on duty.

Thomasians are also advised to bring their own water bottles as water stations will be made available around the campus.

Parena earlier advised students to follow the queues and inform security in case of an emergency.

“If you see something, please say something, do let us know so that we can act on it,” said Parena during the Nov. 27 information session.

Entry, exit, and re-entry

The following are the gates for pedestrian entrance and re-entry:

  • Gates 1, 3, 9, 14 and link bridge for students and university staff; and
  • Gate 11 for alumni.

Pedestrian exit is assigned to the following gates:

  • Gates 2, 7, 10, and 14 for students, university staff, and alumni.

Parishioners of the Santisimo Rosario Church must access Gate 7 for entry and exit, while Gate 14 is for UST Hospital visitors.

Thomasians who need to leave the campus must inform the security at exit gates. An invisible ink mark will be applied on exiting individuals.

For re-entry verification, attendees must scan their right wrist to verify the invisible ink marking.
