THE UST Symphony Orchestra will play a repertoire of romantic classics in “Opus II,” a concert to be held May 25 at the Albertus Magnus Auditorium.

The orchestra, under the baton of orchestral conducting student Jedrick Itugot, will return to classical music after performing mostly contemporary music in recent concerts.

The orchestra will play music by Russian composers Sergei Rachmaninoff and Modest Mussorgsky, Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, and Mexican composer Arturo Márquez.

Music student Denise See, who bagged third place in the Second International Mozart Piano competition in Thailand, will be performing Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Piano Concerto No. 2.”

In an interview, Itugot said ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra Director Gerard Salonga and UST Piano Department Coordinator Anthony Yu Say helped them prepare for the concert.

The concert will serve as “an audition” for the 1st Hong Kong International Conducting Competition.
