VISUAL artist Pedro Felix Garcia II mounted “Reality and the Fading Images of the Imagination,” an abstract-realism exhibit launched last Oct. 27 at the SM Megamall Art Center in Mandaluyong.

Garcia, an alumnus and instructor of the College of Fine Arts and Design, said his exhibit embodied important parts of his life.

“My paintings before were faceless, they were from imagination. Now that I’m starting to draw faces, mostly of my children, I transitioned to realism,” Garcia told the Varsitarian.

His transition from abstract to realism was shown in his work titled “Passion, Lust, and the Free Spirit,” an acrylic painting that depicts a child riding a carousel with three faceless dancers above him.

Garcia admitted he was challenged in finding his signature “style” after his shift to realism.

“In realism, [there is an] actual image for your reference… [with] imagination, [the subject of the painting] comes from your mind alone, and so there is more room for your perspectives,” he said.

Garcia used unconventional materials and surfaces for his canvases.

“Reality and the Fading Images of the Imagination” ran until Nov. 8.
