THE UST spikers captured two wins in the UAAP Season 80 beach volleyball tournament at the SM Sands by the Bay last Oct. 6.
The Lady Spikers stayed perfect with a 3-0 win-loss record, tied with the Far Eastern University. The men’s team fell to 2-1.
The Lady Spikers thwarted the Ateneo de Manila University, 22-20, 21-15.
Up by two in the second frame, 17-15, UST ignited a 4-0 spurt capped by reigning MVP Cherry Rondina’s soft hit to notch its third-straight win.
Rondina sizzled with 20 points while Caitlyn Viray added 11.
Bea de Leon chipped in 12 points for Ateneo.
In men’s play, the Tiger Spikers pummeled Adamson University, 21-14, 21-12, before absorbing a 19-21, 21-14, 18-16 beating from National University.
With the third canto tied at 16-all, back-to-back kills by Bryan Bagunas sealed the match for NU. He finished with 33 markers.
Anthony Arabasto chalked up 20 points for UST while reigning MVP Kris Roy Guzman had 16.
“Nakita naman namin ‘yung laro kaya wala kaming pinagsisisihan. Basta ‘yung galaw namin maganda, walang problema sa akin. First round pa lang, hindi pa tapos [ang laban],” Doloiras said.
