SPANISH Dominican Fr. Jesus Prol, O.P. succumbed to cancer last July 20. He was 71.

Prol was one of the few remaining Spanish missionaries belonging to the Holy Rosary Province of Spain who were assigned to the Philippines.

In 1972, he was ordained to priesthood in the Dominican Order and was sent to the Philippines, where he lived and worked in San Juan.

The late Manila archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin appointed him parish priest of Santuario del Santo Cristo in San Juan in 1973. He was known for his dedication in ministering to the youth and the poor.

Prol served as a lecturer in the University and had published editorials and articles in Life Today magazine, where he was an editor.

He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of Dominican-run Aquinas School in San Juan.

Fr. Bonifacio García Solís, O.P., prior provincial of the Province of the Holy Rosary once wrote, “I would say that [Fr. Prol] projected an image of simplicity and humility together with an innate wisdom in his piece of advice.”

Describing him as a “man of faith,” Fr. Matthias Nga Reh O.P., the new parish priest of Santuario del Santo Cristo, said he would remember Prol as a humble and an obedient brother of the community.

His remains were laid to rest at the Santuario del Santo Cristo Cemetery on Monday.
