Lady Spikers rout hapless Lady Maroons

December 5, 7:00 p.m. - THE UST Lady Spikers clobbered a pesky University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons cruising to their second straight win in three sets, 25-21, 25-19, 25-16 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan today.

Sparked by Maika Ortiz's kill in the third canto, the España-based spikers rallied with a 5-0 run but Southlyn Ramos tried to stop the bleeding for UP with her down the line hit, 9-5.

Juniors MVP completes RP selection in FIBA U-18

AFTER leading UST to a runner-up finish in the UAAP juniors’ basketball tournament, reigning MVP Kevin Ferrer has been tapped to join the Philippine campaign in the 21st Federation Internationale de Basket-ball (FIBA) Asia U-18 championship tournament in Sana’a, Yemen.

Ferrer and his team left the country on September 20, two days before the Philippine squad’s opening game against Saudi Arabia. He was invited to the team shortly after winning the Rookie of the Year honors last season.

Also in the selection are Ateneo standouts Kiefer Ravena and Von Pessumal, ex-Cub Kyle Neypes, and Jeron Teng, younger brother of UST’s Jeric Teng.

UST’s coaching staff was proud that a home-grown talent was invited to the national team.

Salinggawi dines with the Rector

RECTOR Fr. Rolando de la Rosa, O.P. honored the Salinggawi Dance Troupe and the Yellow Jackets with a testimonial dinner at the Central Seminary Gym last September 27 for their third-place finish in this year’s UAAP cheerdance competition.

“We are so proud (of you). All the priests enjoy watching you. Every time you perform, you give us a very beautiful memory to look back on,” Rector said in his speech.

As a reward, the dance troupe was placed under the Rector’s office so it could be “really taken care of,” especially on the occasion of the school’s quadricentennial, according to De la Rosa.

The Rector said he was considering more practice hours for Salinggawi members to better prepare them for competitions.
