DIFFERENT interpretations of day and night were shown in “Light Luster: Art Breaks Through,” a group exhibition last Jan. 10 at Saguijo, Makati.

The one-night exhibit, curated by 2016 history alumnus Gale de Ocampo, was part of the Twinlight project, which Ocampo co-founded.

“We invite creators to join us and collaborate for regular events, gatherings and exhibits where they can showcase their talents and skills, as well as meet fellow artists from somewhat similar or altogether different circles,” Ocampo told the Varsitarian.

The exhibit revolved around the questions, “What keeps you up at night?” and “What drives you during the day?”

“The concept was inspired by creating in the comfort of the night’s darkness and pushing forward despite the pressures of the day, all in pursuit of creating something we are all passionate about,” she said.

Varsitarian artist Threena Umali joined the exhibit with “Euphoria,” a 20×20 acrylic on canvas that depicted an alien-like being surrounded by odd-looking plants inspired by images in films and comic books.

“It’s actually a self-portrait and this is one of the few self-portraits I really liked,” Umali said.
