A GROUP of Thomasians mounted an online fundraising concert titled “Gaya Ng Dati” for the victims of Typhoon “Ulysses” on Nov. 18.
The concert, organized by Tisha Ayonayon, Mariska Lacson, Kvaern Nocos, Gwyn Ruiz, Kyla Pagdanganan and Jervy Ricochermoso was streamed live on Facebook and raised P126,406.34.
The amount was used to distribute 415 packs containing rice, water, ready-to-eat food, and sanitary products to affected families, including those in Camarines Sur.
“The event is an example of collective small efforts, striving to create a big impact,” Ayonayon said.
“Gaya Ng Dati” featured various performers including twins Akihiro and Hiroshi Marutani, both juniors at the University, who danced soulfully to Irish singer Hozier’s “Work Song.”
Inter-collegiate dance crew Ronins danced to a remix of “Love Come Down” by Kid the wiz, “Boogie Bodyland” by The Bar-Kays, “Nasty” by Parris Goebel and “Rock it” by Master P.
Jonas Belgica, a marketing freshman with a large social media following, capped the concert with a sharp and powerful dance rendition of Vedo’s “Pull Out.”
He stressed the need for social media influencers to speak up, participate in donation drives and become role models.
“[This initiative] aims to change lives and aid those in need. Its importance goes beyond helping. Lives are at stake here,” Belgica said.
Other performers were Kaela Madrunio, Kirby Martin, How’s The Turtle, Angeline Cruz, AJ Ansong, Hannah Chua, Daniel Lim, Anton Bustamante and Rosabelle Rono.
